It is hard to believe that it is now June! Where does all the time go? It goes by far too quickly!

This week, I am talking about crystal, specifically Waterford crystal. Waterford crystal is named after the city of Waterford, Ireland. Early production of the glassware dates back to 1783. Most of the Waterford manufactured today is made outside of Ireland in countries like Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Germany. Waterford produces many patterns of cut crystal: Adare, Alana, Colleen, Kincora, Lismore, Maeve, Tramore and Glenmore.

Waterford crystal has both a distinct and prestigious history.  Waterford has become synonymous with crystal and is known for its clarity and brilliance. I use my Waterford crystal every day and it is remarkably sturdy and affordable. Fine crystal also makes a nice wedding gift. Here are some pieces that you can purchase at Ghent Antiques.

  • Two vintage Waterford decanters $195-$225 each
  • Glenmore tumbler glasses-set of 6 $250

Introduced in 1962 and retired from production. Inspired by the historic city of Glenmore where the Annaghs Tower House was built over 500 years ago.

  • 1966 Waterford’s Chandeliers were installed in Westminster Abbey for the 900th anniversary of the dedication of the abbey buildings.
  • Waterford Chandeliers hang in other famous buildings like Windsor Castle, and the Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C. cococozy-easter-centerpiece-1

Waterford Crystal made the 2,688 crystals for the famous New Year’s Eve Ball that is dropped each year in NYC Times Square.
